Delegate
Lucio Ngiraiwet was born on February 21, 1954, and represents the
State of Ngardmau where Palaus famous and wonderful waterfalls are
located.
After graduation in
1968 from the Ngardmau Elementary School, Mr. Ngiraiwet attended
four different high schools, the last of which was Mason High School
in the State of Iowa, where he graduated in 1973. He earned his
AA Degree in Liberal Arts at Suomi College, Michigan State.
Upon his return in 1978,
he taught briefly at the Palau High School before moving on to become
Director of the Palau Outward Bound Program, Assistant Clerk of
Courts, Chief Clerk of Courts, and served regularly as Appellate
Clerk.
During the National
General Election in late 1988, he ran a successful campaign which
propelled him to become a Delegate representing the State of Ngardmau
to the House of Delegates, Third Olbiil Era Kelulau. Following Installation
of the Third Olbiil Era Kelulau, Delegate Ngiraiwet was appointed
Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Social Services, Vice
Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, and member of the House
Committees on Judiciary and Governmental Affairs; Tourism and Transportation;
and Claims and Trade Relations to former Colonizers.
After serving his term
from 1988 to 1992, Delegate Ngiraiwet decided to take time off from
politics. With his vast experience, he was appointed Executive Director
of Palau Public Land Authority. A job he held until his re-election
in 1996 to serve a second term. His colleagues appointed him Chairman
of the Health and Education Committee, and he also serves as member
of the Ways and Means and Tourism and Transportation Committees.
