Delegate
Gerdence I. Meyar was born on October 30, 1949 in Peleliu. He comes
from the world renown island of Peleliu located just within the
Southern tip of Palaus barrier reef, referred to as the flat platform
island. The State of Peleliu is widely recognized as the natural
museum of the Pacific Regions World War II relics.
Delegate Meyar attended
Koror Elementary School during his childhood years. He also attended
Intermediate High School and moved on to Palau High School where
he graduated in 1969 earning a Diploma. In 1971, he went on to further
his education at Forestry College in Papua New Guinea where he graduated
in 1973.
Delegate Meyar returned
in early 1974 and worked for the Department of Agriculture in the
old Palau District Government under the Trust Territory of the Pacific
Islands. He devoted 21 years of his career helping the Forestry
Division in developing its programs. His most notable achievement
is assisting schools and state governments in their tree planting
programs and other related agricultural projects. Delegate Meyar
was elected to the House of Delegates of the Fourth Olbiil Era Kelulau
on September 1995, succeeding late Delegate Humio T. Kebekol, and
assumed the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Tourism.
On November 1996, Delegate
Meyar ran unopposed and was again re-elected to serve his second
term as Delegate of the State of Peleliu, in the Fifth Olbiil Era
Kelulau. In the incumbent Sixth Olbiil Era Kelulau, the Delegate
Chairs the Committee on Tourism. He also serves as Vice Chairman
of the Commerce & Trade Committee, and as member of the Committees
on Ways & Means; Capital Improvement Projects; Banking & Corporations;
Resources & Development and Foreign Affairs. He has contributed
tremendously to Palaus tourism industry and will continue to make
Tourism as a prominent industry of the Republic.
