Delegate
Augustine Mesebeluu is serving his fourth term representing the
State of Melekeok in the House of Delegates. He is married to the
former Regina J. Kyota of the State of Ngeremlengui, with whom he
has three children; Kevin, Keith and Kirvie.
Delegate Mesebeluu attended Melekeok, Peleliu and George B. Harris
Elementary Schools. He graduated from Palau High School in 1973
and went on to continue his college education at Olympic College
in Bremerton, Washington. He later transferred to the University
of Washington in Seattle and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Public Administration in 1977.
Delegate Mesebeluus long and industrious career began when he returned
to Palau in 1977 and began working as a Classroom Teacher for Mindszenty
High School. In 1981 he became Principal of Mindszenty High School,
a post which he ably served for three years before he was recruited
to become the Lead Instructor for the Upward Bound Program at the
Palau Community College.
His political experience began when he was elected to represent
the State of Melekeok to the Third Olbiil Era Kelulau in 1988, where
he served as a member of the Committee on Education and Youth Affairs.
In 1992, he ran unopposed as Delegate of Melekeok State to the Fourth
Olbiil Era Kelulau where he served as Floor Leader. In 1996, he
was elected for the third time to represent the State of Melekeok
in the Fifth Olbiil Era Kelulau, a term he served as Chairman of
the Committee on Education and Youth Affairs, and as Vice Chairman
of the Committee on Health.
In his current term as Melekeok State representative to the House
of Delegates, Sixth Olbiil Era Kelulau, Delegate Mesebeluu is Chairman
of the Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Affairs, Vice Chairman
of the Committee on Banking and Corporations, and member of various
other committees of the House of Delegates.
The Delegate strongly believes that in order for our children to
compete with a better chance in the labor market, they must have
a better education. He believes also that the future of Palau depends
on how much attention and assistance the National Congress is willing
to give to support education programs for our children.
