Delegate
Kerai Mariur was born onJune 04, 1951 in Ollei, Ngarchelong State,
located on the northern tip of Babeldaob. The State is known for
its huge monoliths called Badrulchau, named are among the most impressive
archeological artifacts in Palau and the Pacific Region.
Mariur graduated from Palau High School in 1972, before going on
to Cannons International Business College in Hawaii, completing
his studies in 1976 in Business Administration and Higher Accounting.
He is married to Waisang Laurinda Mairiur, with whom he has four
children.
His political career began when he was elected to the House of
Delegates of the Fourth Olbiil Era Kelulau. He served as Chairman
of the Committee on Youth & Cultural Affairs, Vice Chairman of the
Committee on Ways & Means, and member of several other committees.
Several bills he introduced were signed into law, including Marine
Protection Act which is designed to insure the sustainability of
Palaus fish and other marine species for future generations. The
Marine Protection Act was signed into law by President Nakamura
on May 18, 1994. Delegate Mariur was re-elected to represent his
people in the Fifth Olbiil Era Kelulau, where he served as Chairman
of the Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Affairs, Vice Chairman
of the Committee on Ways & Means, and as member of the Committees
on Foreign Affairs, Resources and Development and Tourism and Transportation.
Delegate Mariur was again re-elected to the Sixth Olbiil Era Kelulau,
where he is now Chairman of the Committee on Health, Vice Chair
of the Committee on Environment &Ecology, and member of the Judiciary
and Governmental Affairs Committee.
The Delegate strives to serve his people to the best of his abilities
and to work together with the people of Palau to improve the standard
of living throughout the Republic. As Chairman of the Health Committee,
he endeavors to improve functions of the national government, particularly
in the areas of health and welfare of the people. He takes a hands-on
approach as a member of the House of Delegates. He welcomes not
only his constituents, but all Palauans, to visit his office and
express their opinions. Working hand-in-hand with the people of
Palau, Delegate Mariur is confident that Palauans can continue to
improve Palau.
