Delegate
Antonio Bells represents the State of Ngaraard, a picturesque state
that encompasses the East and West Coasts of Babeldaob. Delegate
Bells captured the reigns as Ngaraard State Delegate in the House
of Delegates after the November 09, 1996 General Election. With
his broad knowledge in economics and finance, his colleagues appointed
him as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for the greater
half of the Fifth Olbiil Era Kelulau, a powerful committee that
managed the finances of the Republic of Palau. As a majority leader,
he was also entrusted with the responsibilities of the overall direction
of the House of Delegates. Currently he serves as Chairman of the
House Committee on Banking and Corporations while he Vice Chairs
the Committee on Social, Cultural and Youth Affairs, in the Sixth
Olbiil Era Kelulau. He is also a member of various other committees
of the House.
Born on July 06, 1948, Chairman Bells attended Xavier High School
in Chuuk after completing his elementary schooling at Maris Stella
Elementary School. In 1978, he graduated from Montana University
with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics.
Upon returning to Palau, Delegate Bells held numerous high level
jobs as Palau High School Teacher; Koror State Municipal Manager;
Park and Recreation Director; Special Assistant to the Minister
of Administration, and Pension Plan Administrator up until 1996.
Two years before his candidacy to the House of Delegates, Delegate
Bells was appointed in 1994 as Chairman of the Team Palau that attended
the third Micro Games held in Guam in the summer of 1994. In the
Sixth Olbiil Era Kelulau, he took reigns of the Ways and Means Committee
once again in his second term and as a member of the Committees
on Health, Judiciary and Governmental Affairs, Education, and Tourism
and Cultural Affairs.
Delegate Bells is an avid fisherman who believes that the ocean
should be preserved and conserved for new generations to come. His
devotion to the preservation of the ocean makes him a true environmentalist
at hear. He is married to Emerei Edward and they have five children;
Surech Hideyos, Rdiall Bells, Wynn Yobech, Samantha and Lieb Bells.
